The right MERV filtration rating for your home or business.
What does MERV mean?
MERV stands for Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value. It basically measures the performance of the filter in capturing small particles. The higher the MERV rating is related to the increased filtration performance of the air filter. A MERV 13 will block particles as small as .3 microns, which is super tiny, such as virus carriers. A MERV 11 filter will block particles as small as 1.0 microns, such as smoke and allergens, and a MERV 8 rated filter will shield contaminates as small as 3.0 microns, like dust and pollen.
Our recommendation:
MERV 8 is perfect for most households and business which are in a good air quality area, and the occupants don’t have allergies or too many pets.
Have Allergies or Asthma? Then we’d recommend a MERV 11 filter for better performance in protecting your living space from allergens and other contaminates.
The MERV 13 filter is for those that need the purest air quality. If you live in a poor air quality area with smog, have respiratory concerns, or just prefer the cleanest air possible, then the MERV 13 filter may be the best choice.
Although MERV is the HVAC industry standard, Lowes (MPR) and Home Depot (FPR) have created their own filtration measurements from Honeywell and Filtrete.
MERV 8 = MPR 600 = FPR 5 | MERV 11 = MPR 1000 = FPR 7 | MERV 13 = MPR 2200 = FPR 10
